October 18th through the 22nd is Red Ribbon Week. It is a week of celebrating a drug free life! This year’s theme is Maplewood Cougars are “Paws”-itively Drug Free. The students and staff at Maplewood are excited about celebrating the week with the following fun spirit days:
Monday: “Being Drug Free Rocks”-students and staff dress up like a rock star or diva (please follow school dress code—no hair paint, face paint, inappropriate clothes, etc.).
Tuesday: “Run Away From Drugs, Be Healthy and Fit”--students and staff can wear jogging suits or dress like our P.E./Health teachers.
Wednesday: “Life is Sweet Drug Free” –students and staff wear something with a sweet theme (dress in candy logo shirts, shirts with cupcakes, or colorful clothes representing colors of the rainbow like skittles, etc.). Students will receive a piece of candy on that day.
Thursday: “No Matter the Decade, Being Drug Free is Always in Style”—students can dress up based on a decade theme (tie-dye, poodle skirts, big hair, hippy, preppy, etc.).
Friday: “Show Your School Spirit Drug Free”-students and staff wear school colors (blue & white) or their favorite Maplewood shirts to show how we all work as a team to stay away from drugs and alcohol.
All students will be given red ribbons to wear throughout the week. The ribbons will have a number on the back of them, and on Monday through Friday numbers will be called. If your number is called and you have your red ribbon on, you may come to the office to choose a prize. It would be a good idea to leave your ribbon at school every day so it does not get lost (you will only receive one ribbon).
